Dea. Roosevelt Smiley Sr. was born September 28, 1924 to Carrie McDade-Smiley and Elias Smiley in Ramer, Alabama, the eighth child from their union.
Dea. Roosevelt Smiley Sr. confessed Christ at an early age. He joined New Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Co-Chairman of the Deacon Board and President of the Male Chorus. He served as a member of the Masonic Lodge Chapter 303, Montgomery Buck Hunters.
Dea. Roosevelt Smiley Sr, started his career at Capital Fertilizer Company where he remained for 20 years and as his family grew he transition to Koppers Forrest Production where he continued for 30 years of employment until retirement at the age of 65.
Dea. Roosevelt Smiley Sr. was preceded in death by his wife of 50 plus years, Ruthie Mae Smiley, children, Richard Smiley, Adlene (Marvin Sr.) Abstain, siblings: Linnie, Ruth, Mamie, Tommy, Nathaniel, George, Herbert and Johnny.
Dea. Roosevelt Smiley Sr. leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Sarah Smiley, his children: Nathaniel (Climmie) Smiley, Mary Louise (Isaac) Shaw, Roosevelt Smiley Jr., Rev. Clarence Smiley, Timothy Smiley, David (Fannie) Smiley, all of Montgomery, AL; Linnie (Lonnie) Lawson; Edward Smiley all of Louisville, KY; Angela (Perry) Addison, of Stone Mountain, GA; Alan J. Smiley of San Antonio, TX; and Betty McKenzie of North Carolina; Extended Children: Pastor Sylvester (Veronica) Poole Sr., Dea.
