Obituary for Thomas C. Wright

Thomas was born April 27th 1927 in Bessemer City North Carolina. Because he was an only child to Odessa Wright they moved to Maryland where he was raised by his mother and grandmother alongside his cousins James, Herbert & Charles Wright. There he attended school and graduated from Douglass High School where he played football. He then joined the military, the Army Air Corps which later transform to the air force where he served 27 distinguished years. During that time he met the love of his life Mattie Bernice Hamilton to whom he was married for 61 amazing years.
After his service in the military he continued to serve the government as administrative clerk for the Veterans Administration for another 17 years. During that time he also obtained a bachelor's degree from Troy University in Criminal Justice. He also found time to serve as bartender at the NCO club on Maxwell Air Force Base as well as work alongside his brother in law Robert Cummings at the Barbecue Hut for many years. Though not active at the time of his death he was a member of the Masonic Order, as well as Spartan Social Club until their dissolution in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his adoring wife and loving daughter Cynthia Wright Arrington.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory an adoring and loving daughter Kimberly Bethune McQuiddy four grandchildren D'Shia Grimes of Montgomery Alabama, Dawn Grimes ,Stephanie Grimes, Tevin McQuiddy, one great-granddaughter Kori Grimes, and a devoted son in law John McQuiddy all of Nashville Tennessee. Loving cousins Ann Dunlap, Jan Williams both of North Carolina, Peggy Wright of Maryland, Dorothy Walker of Montgomery Alabama. Godchildren Carlton Cooley & Adrienne Cooley. And a host of other relatives and friends.

    So sorry to hear the news of Binky’s passing. I am so glad I had the chance to sit and talk with Binky after all these years at our silver (25 years) Lanier class reunion – he still had as much swag then just like at our time at Lanier. Binky blessed a lot of us with his sense of humor, laid back confidence and his love for sports, especially basketball. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless, keep and comfort the King family in their time of bereavement.
