Obituary for Nathaniel Hiawatha Hamilton

Mr. Nathaniel Hiawatha Hamilton, Jr. was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on August 22, 1953, and departed this life on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the age of 64 in a local hospital in his hometown of Montgomery, Alabama.

He completed his formative education in the public schools of Montgomery County and graduated George Washington Carver High School in 1971. Shortly after graduating high school, Nathaniel followed his family’s tradition and enlisted for service in the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge after 14 years of meritorious service. As a veteran, he displayed with pride his service to his country.

After his career in the Army, Nathaniel became an accomplished chef and excelled in the administration of large - capacity dining facilities and later earned an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from the University of Washington. Early in his career, he was the featured chef for several 5-Star hotels in Seattle and Atlanta receiving numerous culinary accolades for his creative talents. Prior to retirement, he served as Food Services Manager at Maxwell/Gunter Air Force Base for approximately 20 years.

Upon returning home to Montgomery, he met Zeola Bolling who became the love of his life and married her in July of 2008. He called his wife “Darlin” and often responded with “Anything for you Darlin.” They enjoyed a wonderful, sweet 10 years together and devoted their lives to serving their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Nathaniel and Zeola worked as a team caring for his mother Elizabeth and mother-in-law Zeola. They were truly a team. His projects became her projects and her projects became his projects.

As a dedicated member of Revelation Baptist Church, he served on the Trustee Board, sang in the male chorus, and managed food preparation fellowship events at the church’s fellowship hall. His passion was preparing food and serving others. When repairs were needed on facilities in the fellowship hall, he repaired or replaced them. Nathaniel was a big man with a big heart and an example of service to his country, his family, and his church.

In addition to cooking, Nathaniel loved fishing, traveling, spending time with his granddaughter Sharae, using information technology, entertaining, learning new things, and helping others.

He leaves to celebrate his life his devoted wife, Zeola; daughter, CharaieCelia; granddaughter, Sharae; step – daughter, Zoe; sister, Vira Brock; brother, Lucious (Janice) Hamilton; brother, Shawn (Charlene) Hamilton; mother - in-law, Zeola Aaron Bolling; loving aunts, Leatha Mae Hargrove, Lillie Bee Colon, Lucile Rose; and a host of precious nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a loving church family.

So sorry to hear the news of Binky’s passing. I am so glad I had the chance to sit and talk with Binky after all these years at our silver (25 years) Lanier class reunion – he still had as much swag then just like at our time at Lanier. Binky blessed a lot of us with his sense of humor, laid back confidence and his love for sports, especially basketball. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless, keep and comfort the King family in their time of bereavement.
