Obituary for Adell Robinson
Mr. Adell Robinson was born June 3, 1921 in Burkville, AL; Lowndes County, Alabama to the late Todd Robinson and Lettie Pearl Jefferson.
Mr. Robinson, a 93-year-old World War II Veteran, served this great country well in the quest to maintain our countryβs freedom. He constantly spoke about his service to his country with great excitement and enthusiasm. He was enlisted in the service in 1943 in Montgomery, Alabama. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army as a member of the 848th Engineer Battalion, one of four all-black battalions to serve in Upper Assam, India. His tours of duty included service in China, Burma, and India; he was discharged in October 1945 with an honorable discharge. In 1946, Mr. Robinson began working with the Montgomery Housing Authority as a painter, where he remained for 31 years. After retiring from the Housing Authority, he became a self-employed painter until he was no longer able to work.
He received Christ at an early age and was a member of Bell Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a Deacon under Rev. Bill Lewis. In 1956, he joined New Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dupree, where he served as chairman of the Deacon board. He recently joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under Rev C.B. Croskery, where he again served as a Deacon until his death.
He was called home to his eternal resting place on June 2, 2015.
He was married to the late Jessie Mae Robinson on November 23, 1949, and to this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his sisters; Ester M Colvin, Dora Broaden, brothers, Norman Mitchell and Charlie Robinson, and his first born daughter, Peggie A. Perkins.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted children, Jackie Robinson, Montgomery, AL, Edward (Kyong) Robinson Fayetteville, NC, Vernon J. (Sharon) Robinson, Deatsville, AL, Marilyn S. Goodson, Montgomery, AL, Gary (Janie) Robinson, Montgomery, Al, Floyd Robinson, Montgomery, AL and Like a Son, Wesley Gantt, Montgomery, AL. Four sisters: Wilhemenia (John T.)
