Plude Blackmon was the second born of the late Luke and Sylvia Blackmon in Collirene, AL on June 15, 1911. He accepted Christ at an early age and upon moving to Montgomery, AL he united with the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Plude was a devotion leader, and work on the usher board, he also made repairs at the church, and made sure everything was clean and ready for the next service. He served faithfully, never tiring, never wavering, or too ill to praise the Lord.
Plude was a Carpenter by trade and performed many works with his hands building things and homes, including his own. He was always at work, even during his weakness, calling out measurements and laying out the design of anything that was out together with a hammer and nails. “He read the Bible every day and seemed to never get enough.”
Plude married the love of his life, Verbie (Robinson) Blackmon, in January 1935, and to this union eight children were born. This covenant ended with her being called “from Labor to Reward” on Monday, February 25, 1991. Also preceding him in death were two daughters, Cherrie Goodman and Annie Pearl Lee.
Cherishing his memories are his devoted children: Frank Blackmon (Bedford, OH), Jessie Toles (Warrensville Hts, OH), Carrie (Thessalonia) Kendrick Lois (Wilbert) McWhorter, and Betty Blackmon, all of Montgomery, AL, and Winston Blackmon (Atlanta, GA); thirteen grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws (Easter and Elizabeth Blackmon); a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.
