Mrs. Velma Orum Davis was born January 1, 1948 to the late Bessie Orum Elsberry and the late Sam Lusane in Montgomery, AL. Velma attended Booker T. Washington, and later was a Graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She was a resident of Madison Park, and the Belair Community in her early years. She was a Faithful and Dedicated member of The Church of Encouragement where Dr. Victor Lewis Sr., is the pastor until her passing.

Velma was employed by Russell Corporation for over 20 years and was loved and respected by many, until her son decided it was time for her to retire. She was blessed to have a surprise retirement, Friday, April 7, 1995 at 12:00 noon where she was blessed to have him come and inform her that it was her last day on the job and that he will be taking care of her for the rest of her life.  Well she made the decision she wanted to work with him so he later made her Customer Service Director with 1Voice Worldwide where she continued until her passing.

Velma was a very loving and kind person, she would sit for hours at a time and just listen to music and enjoy life as she knew it. She was the most organized person you would ever meet. She would write down everything anyone would tell her with the date, the time, and what you said. She always said live each day as if it was your last! Anyone who knew her knows her favorite sayings were “Gotta Love It” and “Have Mercy”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, N.D. Davis, mother, Bessie Orum Elsberry, father, Sam Lusane, sister, Dorothy Jean Baldwin, brothers, Clarence Orum and Willie Lusane.
