Karen Marjorie Ferguson, loving wife to Clifford, protective mother to Ferguson, William, Emmanuel and Simon Peter, and devoted daughter to Mildred and Hugh) transitioned into the peaceful arms of her heavenly father on August 7, 2015. Karen can best be described as a prayer warrior, a servant, a missionary, a brother’s keeper, biblically, a true neighbor, and most of all, a child of God. Karen loved the Lord and enjoyed studying and sharing His word. She lived to bask in his presence and praise Him in song and text and was a servant in His vineyard.

Karen was born in Lynchburg, VA on March 2, 1960 to Hugh and Mildred Ferguson. She was baptized at Court Street Baptist Church, which laid the foundation for her love of the Lord. She was raised with her two brothers, Maxie and Timmy in loving homes in various parts of the country. Karen met her future husband, Clifford Winston, in high school in Columbia, MD, where their families also attended church together. After graduating from Hampton University, Karen began her career as a Cost Accountant with IBM in Manassas, VA. The next year, she and her high school sweetheart, Clifford, were joined in holy matrimony by Rev Darrell Greene. By this time, Clifford had joined the Air Force, and she began her life of travel as a military spouse. To this union was born four boys; she loved them dearly and they knew it.

Karen was called into ministry in 1984, while stationed at RAF Bentwaters, England, and United Kingdom. She served as clerk to Rev. Kevin Richardson. This began her mission for the Lord, which she continued for the rest of her life. She was never content to be a “pew warmer.” She served faithfully in various capacities in whatever church or city God lead the family.

After moving to Alabama, Karen united with the Union Chapel AME Zion Church, where she worked diligently with the Missionary Society, the Lay Council, the Steward Board, the Sunday School, and became a local preacher, East Montgomery District.
